Short answer: airless is faster and gives a very even coat on large surfaces (ceilings, facades, warehouses); rollers remain more sensible on small areas and in occupied spaces, as they need less masking.
Comparison
| Criterion | Airless | Roller |
|---|---|---|
| Speed | Very high on large areas | Moderate |
| Finish | Even film, no marks | Slight texture, possible marks |
| Masking | Extensive | Limited |
| Textured substrates | Very suitable | Slower |
| Small rooms | Not cost-effective | Suitable |
When to choose airless
- Ceilings and large volumes.
- Facades and apartment buildings.
- Warehouses, commercial premises, steel structures.
When to prefer a roller
- Occupied apartments, small rooms.
- Touch-ups and cutting-in.
In practice both are often combined: airless for surfaces, roller and brush for finishing. See our airless painting service.
