Microcement and concrete-effect renders

A seamless, mineral, contemporary look for walls, floors, stairs and bathrooms.

Microcement gives a seamless mineral look that contemporary architecture loves. COLOR HOME applies it to walls, columns, staircases, floors and wet rooms, as well as formed-concrete effect renders that reproduce shuttering marks.

A thin material, it is trowelled in several passes onto a stable substrate, then protected with varnish or wax depending on use.

Definition — Microcement (béton ciré) is a decorative coating a few millimetres thick, made from cement, resins and pigments, trowelled in several coats and then sealed. It creates a continuous polished-concrete look without joints.

Applications

  • Living-room walls and columns
  • Staircases and landings
  • Floors in living areas (on a suitable base)
  • Bathrooms and walk-in showers with suitable sealing
  • Counters, worktops and built-in furniture

Frequently asked questions

Microcement or epoxy resin for a floor?

Microcement favours a mineral aesthetic; epoxy resin gives a more closed surface that is easier to maintain in high-traffic areas. See our comparison on the blog.

Can microcement be applied over tiles?

Yes, if the tiles are well bonded and joints are treated, with a suitable bonding primer.

Is microcement suitable for showers?

Yes, provided a wet-room system and waterproof sealer are used, on a properly prepared base.
